Michael’s Vision

Dear friend and neighbor,

Public service is my passion.

I am running for City Council District 8 for one reason. I love Arlington and I want to do all I can to keep this great city moving forward. I am a native Texan who chose to live and raise my family in this unique community.

Years ago Janice, my beautiful wife of 40 years, and I were carefully considering where in the Metroplex we wanted to raise our young family. We were seeking good schools, a church in which we could grow spiritually, safe neighborhoods and public spaces, and accessible recreational facilities. We wanted to be in the “middle” of this dynamic region. Arlington was tops in everything so we became Arlingtonites—one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

I firmly believe that I should serve wherever I can to make Arlington an even better place to live. To serve is the way I was raised, and I have been a servant leader wherever I have been. I served in high school, college, the military and my professional life with IBM. Accordingly, I have served in this community on the AISD School Board, Chamber of Commerce Board and Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital Board, to name a few volunteer positions. I believe my broad and diverse experience will add a unique perspective to the process of defining a vision for Arlington, using its values and strengths as the foundation.

Specifically, I want very much to help: (1) Provide the best resources and working environment for our police officers and firefighters who protect us every day of every year; (2) Continue to improve our streets, parks, other infrastructure and services to enhance our quality of life; and (3) Work closely with the business community to have the best climate for economic development and redevelopment, especially in areas with crime-ridden apartments.

Arlington is a great place to live, and we must stay vigilant in making it even better. Our sports teams have made the nation fully aware of Arlington, Texas. Now we should continue our steady movement toward becoming a world-class city. I ask you to vote for me so that I can continue to apply my community experience and strong relationships across the city to capitalize on our assets today while building for the future.

I pledge to work for you and welcome your opinions and comments.

In service,

Michael Glaspie
